Saving a Friend's Life

On January 11, 1999, Stephen Allred underwent a high risk surgical procedure to donate 60% of his liver to a close friend that was dying from liver failure. At the time, Stephen was only the second known donor in the country to go through this procedure for a non-relative. His friend is alive and well today and is raising the daughter he may have left behind if not for this life saving effort. An article appeared on the front page of the Charlotte Observer about this event. I've attached a link to a pdf file if interested. Cancer Survivor

In the Spring of 2007, a deadly and aggressive form of Lymphoma attacked Steve's immune system and nearly ended his life. After six months and eight chemotherapy sessions, he was pronounced cancer free on October 12, 2007 and has had a recovery back to full health. To punctuate his return to complete recovery, he began training in early 2008 for a mini-triathlon that consisted of a 250 yard swim, ten miles on the bike, and a three mile run. On October 18th, 2008, nearly a year to the day from his remission anniversary, he completed the triathlon in one hour and nineteen minutes.

Adventure Seeker
Stormchasing Adventure Tours
Although on the surface Stephen may seem like a regular family man driving around in his minivan, his adventures in the Summer of 2002 certainly proved otherwise. Along with his wife, mother, and uncle, he embarked on a seven-day tour through Tornado Alley in the midwest of the United States with Stormchasing Adventures to experience up close and personal his passionate interest- Supercells and Tornados! This unusual vacation comes highly recommended for those that like to seek out thrills. Stephen has also taken his turn at skydiving from 11,000 feet, also with his mother. Can anyone guess where he might have gotten this thrill-seeker gene from?
